well... there goes california's native dolphin. there's a whole bunch of postcards that are no longer relevant. their numbers have reduced to the pioint where we can't repopulate the species without the offspring being severely inbred. by the time we are able to pick apart their DNA the last surviving ones will have died. all is not lost however, because we can grow them in a lab without the need for even a parent using artificial womb technology. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_wombso they might be the first animal to be brought back from extinction.

actuallt the right answer strangely. only the sperm has been preserved of mammoths so we can only make hybrids using elephant egg cells. since this creature has gone extinct despite being HEAVILY monitored by science we have plenty of cryogenic eggs and sperm giving us potentially tens of thousands of attempts to reincarnate the species.
