A "half-cycle" program is a piece of software designed to find potentially quicker solutions to a problem than is intuitive to a human programmer.
It does this by finding patterns where the next item in the chain of events can be predicted and replicated mathematically.
You've seen this kind of thing in action where A.I. programs write their own short stories for ample.

In the 80's one such program was accidentally leaked onto the internet leading to its creator's arrest after the software disclosed government secrets to the general public.
Though the information was being heald in a very insecure area of the net, its placement was in such a weird place no-one would ever stumble upon it by accident.
Obviously a machine having no context of the monotonously repetative habits of human nature, stubbled in and collected the data.

The intelligence minister went on record mistakingly addressing the software program as an "unfavorable semi-circle".
This is probably the origin of the name and by the outputs we've seen so far also probably what it is though with the internet being much bigger nowadays the results aren't as clear.
I do believe that webdriver torso is the same gimmick though running specifically on youtube's database.
From the evidence we have of the previous unfavorable semi-circle it obviously likes to extract abstract words like numbers or common particles like "the" or "is".
Also it has a nasty habit of collecting screams, especially around halloween when obviously people are adding scream sound effects to their content.
Often when certain meme videos become popular you'll see the program almost replicate the meme actly.
I remember during my experiments with one it kept playing the song roundabout because of the "to be continued" meme.
Obviously due to the tabuu of the predessor such programs are not allowed to run rampant which is proably why youtube removed it.
Also from collecting page data from PDF files the instructions which are shared with the media player might be getting activated by mistake.
