there's an account older than beowolf where a goat carried a bag of grain in its mouth (the currency of the time) and spat them out in front of an inn worker and then went into the rented room and lay down on the hay bed and they considered that a transaction at the time and not a coincidence of a goat stealing a bed whilst being halfway through eating a bag of grain.
